Q+A with Martin Hole - KIN+ILK Wine Tasting
23rd April 2017

What is it you love about wine?

It has become an adventure, I like trying new wines and exploring different regions.

Are you a red, white or a rose kind of guy?

Anything and everything. Not fussy!

Do you have a place that evokes fond memories of a special wine?

I first got into wine on a rugby tour to New Zealand. I didn’t understand wine and a local winemaker guided me around his vineyard. I was fascinated how the different grapes and soils produced different wines. Then he paired a delicious Pinot Noir with some meatballs on the veranda overlooking the vineyard. I was hooked!

If you were a wine, how would you describe yourself?

Complex, deep, structured, medium-to-full bodied. Obviously improving with age.

Which would be harder for you to give up: coffee or wine?

Coffee in the am and wine in the evening. Wine edges it.

If you had to choose one of these, wine inspired songs, which one would it be and why?

· Champagne Supernova by Oasis

· Old Red Wine by The Who

· Elderberry Wine by Elton John

Champagne Supernova. It is a classic.

What do you enjoy the most about the KIN+ILK wine evenings?

The high quality and variety of the wines. The wine descriptions and themes from Amanda from Bay Tree Wine Company who hosts the event. Really tasty food that compliments each wine. Meeting new people every month is great, there’s some really cool people!

What 3 things are unique about it?

Local, fun and educational.

What was the one thing you remembered from the last event?

The quality of the food surprised me. Italian wines are meant to be food friendly but the matching and complimentary tastes were sublime.

Why should people come to the next wine tasting evening?

It's a chance to explore new wines, with new friends, in a relaxed and warm atmosphere. It's totally unstuffy and very welcoming.
