KIN+INK | New Monthly Writing Club

We’re incredibly excited to introduce our new KIN Community Club, KIN+INK - a free monthly writing club in St Davids, held on the last Tuesday of every month. Hosted by the wonderful Amira and George from our St Davids team, this space is all about creativity, connection, and carving out time to write. We asked them a few questions to learn more about them and what inspired the club.

What made you get into writing?

Amira: I got into writing because it was the one place where I feel like I could express myself without judgement. All my thoughts could run free. It also helped me understand myself and the world around me so much better.

George: I’ve always spent a lot of time daydreaming. When I first saw stories I’d imagined being performed by actors—watching them on screen, hearing my lines—it felt surreal. Like the daydream had somehow come true.

What was the motivation behind starting the writing club?

Amira: We always ask what we’re both working on at the moment and we always give each other advice and motivation. We felt like it would be so nice for people in the same headspace get the same kind of support.

George: Writing can be a pretty solitary pursuit, which is exactly why having a community matters. A space where we can help each other out, share feedback, find a bit of accountability, or just vent about the struggle and celebrate the wins together.

What are you hoping people to gain from the writing club?

Amira:I hope people gain confidence and joy in working on their craft and sharing it too. It can be really scary by yourself, but with a community it’s so much easier.

George: A space where people can develop their skills, exchange ideas, or just sit down and write.

Why is it important to you to run a free, community-focused writing space?

Amira: It’s important because not everyone has access to space or dedicated time to work on the things that help them disconnect and reconnect with themselves. We all have different living situations, but this space being free, welcoming, open and accessible to people who want to write and create means people get to set some time aside to get coffee, read, write and meet others if they please.

Favourite books:

Amira:  My favourite books are: the autobiography of Malcolm X by Alex Haley, The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho and In the Presence of Absence by Mahmoud Darwish

George: Into the Woods by John Yorke, Dominion by Tom Holland, and Embers by Sándor Márai

Your go-to coffee:
Amira: My go to coffee is a flat white with almond milk and honey or an iced cappuccino with honey and almond milk (and lots of chocolate on top :)
George: batch-brew, espresso, or a salted hot chocolate in the evening.
