Our Local Community
We’re all about creating a welcoming, inclusive space for everyone—from first-time visitors and regulars to those who use our café as a workspace. With six locations, each with its own community, we have a unique opportunity to connect with people all across Cardiff. We’re proud to host events that support local causes, charities, and exciting new launches.

For us, community means two things.

Our Producers’ Community
We’re committed to supporting our coffee producers’ local communities by paying fairly, even when market prices fluctuate. This ensures that Fernando and his team can make long-term investments in their farm and in the well-being of their local area.

Proudly Supporting Llamau

We’re thrilled to announce our chosen Christmas charity for this year: Llamau, a cornerstone of support for vulnerable individuals in Cardiff and beyond.

Who Are Llamau?
Llamau is an organisation driven by a powerful mission: to eradicate homelessness for young people and vulnerable women in Wales. Their belief is simple yet profound: no one should have to face the fear and uncertainty of homelessness.

Every time you order a KIN Spiced drink (our homemade pumpkin spiced syurp), you’re directly supporting Llamau.

We want to support you!

With so many of our customers using our locations as workspaces, we often hear about a wide range of events and causes—and we’re always happy to support where we can. If you have an upcoming fundraiser, raffle, or charity event, feel free to reach out to discuss how we can get involved!

Sustainability

Sustainability is a word that gets thrown around a lot, we are aware of the risks of greenwashing. But at KIN+ILK, sustainability isn’t just a buzzword—it’s something we actively prioritise in our business. From our takeaway cups to our coffee sourcing, we’re always looking for ways to reduce our impact and operate more responsibly.

Sustainability in Our Stores

We do our best to minimise waste and reduce single-use plastics. Our takeaway cups and sleeves are 100% compostable, and we’re continuing to make sustainable swaps—like introducing paper lids and sticking with paper straws.

We’re also tackling paper waste by moving our loyalty system online with the Embargo app, cutting down on unnecessary printed cards. Plus, we’re part of the Refill Reuse Cup Scheme, allowing customers to rent a reusable cup instead of using a takeaway one. This initiative is available across all KIN+ILK locations and throughout Cardiff.

Our Commitment to Direct Trade Coffee

The coffee industry has a long way to go when it comes to sustainability, which is why we’re incredibly proud of our direct trade relationship with Fernando Lima in El Salvador. So, what does direct trade mean? It means we can trace our coffee from farm to cup, ensuring full transparency and traceability. We visit Fernando and his team every year and pay well above fair trade prices, so even when coffee prices fluctuate, Fernando can continue to invest in his farm, his workers, and the local community.

Fernando is also committed to sustainability—his farm is Rainforest Alliance and Bird Friendly certified, helping to protect local biodiversity. Recently, he switched to a rainwater-fed processing system, reducing water waste and making his coffee even more environmentally friendly.

Our coffee is roasted by the brilliant team at Clifton Coffee, who are B Corp certified, meaning they meet the highest standards of social and environmental responsibility.

Sustainability is an ongoing journey, and we’re always looking for ways to improve.
