Happy St David's Day!

Happy St David’s Day from the entire KIN+ILK Team. St David’s Day is not only a wonderful chance to celebrate the patron saint of Wales but also to honour the amazing people and communities that operate within Wales.

In celebration of St.David’s Day please join us as we give you a look into the amazing Welsh suppliers we use.

Pettigrew:

Founded in 2016, Pettigrew has been on a self-taught mission to learn all the secrets of real bread baking and bring them to Cardiff. They only use the best quality ingredients to ensure the taste is amazing, every time. Pettigrew supplies KIN+ILK with three core items; Sourdough, Welsh Cakes and Croissant Scrap brioche buns.

Sourdough is a staple of the KIN+ILK breakfast menu. Pettigrew’s sourdough takes 72 hours, harnessing the long slow magic of natural fermentation. We often get compliments from customers about how good our sourdough is and it is all down to Pettigrew.

Welsh Cakes, as it's St David's day we had to talk about the amazing Welsh cakes we receive from Pettigrew. Decadent, light and delicious. We receive the Welsh cakes first thing in the morning and they are mostly gone by around 10 am.

Pettigrew's Croissants are to die for and to try and reduce the waste they will use the offcuts to create the best brioche buns. Buttery, crispy and delicious -they elevate our breakfast brioche to make it a perfect breakfast dish. We receive our sourdough, welsh cakes and brioche buns first thing every morning, often still warm!

Fruit loaf is one of our most ordered breakfast items and comes from the amazing bakers at Alex Gouch. Their fruit loaf is delicious and is perfect topped with butter and jam.

One of our main suppliers is Castle Howell who is the leading independent food wholesaler in Wales. Below we are going to list some Welsh produce we use every day and where they are from.

  1. Butter - Mumbles, Swansea

  2. Jam / Marmalade - Bridgend

  3. Yoghurt - Llaeth Y Llan, Llannefydd, Denbigh

  4. Eggs - Hirwaun, Cynon Valley

Moving on to our favourite Welsh butcher - Douglas Willis. Based in Cwmbran, Douglas Willis is a family-owned online butcher and fresh meat supplier. We receive our incredible sausages and chorizo from them. Our sausages are also a staple in our Kin Breakfast Brioche.

Next on our Welsh suppliers is the one and only Waterloo Tea, supplying KIN+ILK with exciting and aromatic loose-leaf teas. Waterloo tea is the leading Welsh tea supplier - pop into one of their stores to experience the full menu!

As a business rooted in Wales, we strive to support the local community by utilizing fresh Welsh produce that is locally made.
