Why Do We Celebrate Our Annual Crop?

At KIN+ILK, we’re proud to celebrate our annual Corozo crop. Why?

First and foremost, we are incredibly proud of our direct trade relationship with our farmer and producer, Fernando Lima. If you haven’t heard of Fernando before, he’s known as the ‘Don of Coffee’, having won numerous Cups of Excellence awards for producing exceptional coffee. What makes Finca El Corozo even more special to us is the ability to trace our coffee’s journey from farm to cup, ensuring quality and authenticity every step of the way.

Each crop of Finca El Corozo has its own unique characteristics. This year’s harvest is no exception. Here’s what Fernando shared about it:

“El Corozo, a former COE farm, is located at one of the highest points of the Santa Ana Volcano. It spans 50 hectares and was covered in ash from an eruption in 2005. The most recent harvest began in January and finished in May 2024, with excellent results. We processed the crop at Balcanes Coffee Micro Mill using rainwater with an ideal pH of 7.0 for fermentation. The weather was favourable, and yields are increasing by 5% each year as the plants continue to grow.”

We love the Cardiff coffee scene and are constantly inspired by the talent in our community. Many of our team attend coffee events around the city, and it’s always amazing to see the passion of local baristas. To celebrate the arrival of this year’s crop, we’re hosting a Latte Art Throwdown in collaboration with Clifton Coffee, and we’d love for you to join us!

The event will feature a friendly competition where baristas will showcase their latte art skills, with some exciting prizes up for grabs. Here’s a glimpse of what you could win:

  • The new Pink AeroPress (yes, it’s pink and yes, it’s amazing!)

  • A KIN+ILK gift card

  • Clifton Coffee merch

  • And something special that we’ll reveal at the event – a product we’ve been working on for a VERY long time!

We’ll be serving a selection of drinks throughout the evening, including non-alcoholic options. Plus, we’re excited to showcase a brand-new product that we’ve been developing – we can’t wait for you to try it!

This is a free event, and everyone is welcome to attend! Whether you’re a coffee expert or just starting to explore the world of coffee, our latte art competition is for all skill levels.
